Get a First Life is a one page web parody of Second Life, created by Canadian PR blogger Darren Barefoot. It even got a a mention on the official Second Life blog.
Some highlights include "Access your closet to build your first life look!" and "GO OUTSIDE. Membership is free." Interestingly enough, he also has a Japanese language version of the page.
This is a really funny site, and it makes me think about all the opportunities that can be had in the "real world". It is important to make contacts online and to create a visible presence for yourself on the web, but we can't forget that there are just as many ways to network and connect ourselves offline too. Going to conferences or luncheons and visiting PR agencies in person, although time and money intensive, are vital to getting our names out there and creating those personal connections. Sometimes we need to remember to "get a first life."
